Information Regarding Salt Water Pool

The benefits of a salt water pool over a traditional chlorine pool are really in the water management. However as it is salt rather than chlorine, it does eliminate some of the side effects that are sometimes experienced in chlorine pools such as, red irritated eyes, dry itchy skin, bleached bathing suits or green hair.

The pool is classed “Salt Water” because instead of using chlorine it uses salt to clean the water, the water passes over the salt and this extracts the natural chlorine that is in salt to keep the pool sterile. However the water is much softer because of this.

A chlorine pool is made up of a two chemical combination that is normally topped up every week and the PH needs to be balanced. Chlorine may cause problems especially for some children and can cause problems with eyes getting sore.

The other issue is that the pool evaporates over time and needs re-filling, however this then weakens the chlorine rate and the pool is less sterile and the PH balance changes, this can lead to ear infections etc.

A salt water pool works in a totally different way, salt contains a natural chlorine content and this is released naturally as the water passes over the salt. This is a natural balance and the PH is balanced at all times due to this being a non chemical reaction, the water is also softer and not as harsh on children.

The property owner has two young children and considered all the above aspects before choosing the type of pool to purchase for the property and felt that a “Salt Water Pool” was the best way to have a naturally balanced water system that will not be harmful to children. The water does not taste of salt and this is totally different to sea water and how harsh that can be.
